BestSelf Co., founded by Cathryn Lavery and Allen Brouwer, is a personal development company that creates high-performance and self-mastery tools for people who want to think bigger and achieve more.
BestSelf Co. offers top of the line productivity tools like journals, discovery prompt card decks, and planners perfect for anyone who is itching to take their life to the next level.
“In just over three years, we’ve gone from launching a single product on Kickstarter to growing a brand and business to 8-figures in revenue.”
“Our store won Shopify’s Build a Business Competition in 2016 and the Build a BIGGER Business competition in 2017 – making BestSelf Co. the only company to win both awards consecutively. We have been featured in the New York Times, Entrepreneur, MTV, Huffington Post, Forbes, Inc., and more.”
“The idea for Self Journal was sparked when Allen and I left our day jobs to focus on trying to run and grow our entrepreneurial business ventures. After a while, it felt like we were on a treadmill, working every day but not getting anywhere. We’d feel busy but not productive. We’d get to the end of the day and feel unclear on what we accomplished that really mattered.”
“Among many other things we learned what differentiates outstanding performers from the average person is an ability to plan, effectively execute and track progress. They create daily rituals for success. When we modeled these principles, hacks, and rituals for ourselves, things started to turn around in a big way.”
Now BestSelf Co. boasts an entire line of products including the Self Journal, plus the Self Planner, Discovery Decks, Action Pads, and calendars.
Cathryn has a keen sense of detail and worked days and nights to craft the entire product line’s experience.
“From the size texture and shape down to the millimeter, the feel of the canvas, the weight of the paper, even the way the pen interacts with the paper, (and yes, it’s fountain pen friendly). Everything was considered.”
In addition to being the CEO of BestSelf Co., Cathryn used her entrepreneurial skills to launch the 2020 Vision program, where she shares her strategies for success so clients can create the life their best self wants.
It doesn’t stop there. Cathryn also hosts The Accountability Club, where for 13 weeks, 200 people get help overcoming their fears and self-sabotage with a blend of coaching, accountability, and community.
“Science says 92% of people never achieve their goals. The Accountability Club is for the 8% who are ready to achieve the big things they can’t stop dreaming about - such as writing a book, running a marathon, or launching a side hustle.”
“To date, our incredible community has provided 219,412 meals to people in need. Because lack of food shouldn’t be the reason that you can’t go after your goals.”
Tell us more about your brand! When did you launch, where are you headquartered?
“BestSelf Co. launched in 2015 with the Self Journal, a 13-week goal-setting journal designed to help our founders Cathryn Lavery and Allen Brouwer outline and achieve their goals.”
“Since then, over 450,000 Self Journals have sold, and the company has expanded its offerings to include the Discovery Decks prompt cards to help people live their best lives.”
“Our company operates remotely, and the team is spread across the globe.”
What are some of your other favorite apps/tools for increasing conversions?
“Fomo is one of our favorite tools to use. That added social proof helps add extra validation for consumers and introduces an element of product discovery to the site.”
“We also really like the Bold Upsell app, it has been a great addition to our toolbox to help increase conversion rates and AOV (average order value).”
“Another one of my favorite tools that has made a world of difference for our conversion rates is EdgeMesh. Holy hell. Since installing, we’ve seen conversion rates increase by over 4x.”
What are a couple of specific problems you’re experiencing?
“While we love the Bold Upsell app, it is a bit buggy and basic. We are always looking for ways to increase AOV, and Fomo is one of the reliable tools we’ve been able to find.”
“Bounce rate is also a concern. We dabbled with exit popups and various offers, but none seem to really make a difference.”
What prompted you to install Fomo?
“The proof is in the pudding. Once we installed it, we saw results within a few weeks.”
How long have you been using Fomo?
“A few years now, maybe 3.”
What stats can you share with us that demonstrate how using Fomo has benefited your business?
“As of 2020, Fomo has helped generate over $19k in revenue. Not too bad for a tool that took less than 5 minutes to install.”
What are some ideas you have or changes you’d like to see made with Fomo?
“None that I can think of. Maybe more tools. We would love a tool on the product page that would say show a countdown timer for either a sale or how many units are left.”
Do you have any advice for other Fomo users?
“It’s a no-brainer. Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.”
What is one thing you want customers to take away from your business? What are you truly selling?
“We’re selling tools to help you live your best life.”
