The Dreamland Baby blanket was designed in partnership with Pediatricians, Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) nurses, and Certified Sleep Consults.

Why did you launch your business?
“At almost six months old, our son Luke was still waking up every hour and a half. Like so many other new parents, we were desperate for sleep. One night we placed him under a heavy throw blanket while sitting on our couch. I noticed a calm, immediately came over his face. A lightbulb went off in my head: he needs a weighted blanket!”
“I called my mother-in-law to sew my idea, a lightly weighted blanket. The first night wearing our prototype Luke slept 12 hours! We couldn’t believe how immediately his sleep was improved.”
“Word quickly spread, and the idea to bring Dreamland Baby to families everywhere was born. We launched a Kickstarter in June 2019 and began shipping at the end of August 2019. We are located outside of San Francisco, California.”
What are your favorite apps for running your operation?
“Fomo is one of my top apps. Others I love are SMSBump for collecting and sending text message campaigns, Klaviyo for collecting and sending email message campaigns, Yesps! for title bar email collection and Yotpo for collecting and displaying customer reviews.”
What problems were you facing before installing Fomo?
“Initially, we had a really high bounce rate and a low click-to-checkout rate. Customers would come on our site, look around for a few seconds, and then leave. We didn’t have anything that was engaging them and keeping them there.”
How did you try to address this before Fomo?
“We did a lot of outreach on social media through paid advertising and influencer marketing so we could get potential buyers to the site, but they weren’t staying. I tried pop out ads with discounts, but it wasn’t until we started using Fomo that everything came together, and we began to see the sales start stacking up.”
How did Fomo solve the problem?
“Installing Fomo was huge for us. Having the notifications and the social proof that other customers were also on our site and buying our products kept customers engaged and staying there.”
How did you find out about Fomo?
“I am in an amazing group chat with other woman entrepreneurs (who now have become my best friends). When I shared our high bounce rate and a low click-to-checkout rate across the board, everyone said ‘you need Fomo!’”
“I was shocked that everyone in the chat was using this service. I didn’t have high expectations because I thought why would a bar on my website telling customers who are there help, but I was blown away with the results.”
“If you think about it, it makes sense. Think back to high school; no-one wants to be the first to sit with a new kid at the lunch table, but as soon as one person sits down, more and more people follow. That is like Fomo after we had the proof of people buying our product more, and more people have jumped on board. There has been a trickle-down effect.”
Why do you use Fomo instead of a competitor?
“I tried one other competitor, but I didn’t have the same success as with Fomo. I really like that with Fomo, you can customize it to fit your branding, and there are several different options for design. I chose one that was sophisticated and sleek and matched my overall aesthetic.”
“I also love that Fomo is an app Shopify recognizes. As a shop owner, it gives me extra confidence that if there is an issue, I can reach Shopify 24/7, and although it’s not their App, they are familiar with some of the most asked questions.”
How do you stay up to date on how Fomo is performing for your store?
“The Fomo app is super easy to use. It is attached to Shopify so I can click in and check the metrics on our click through rates. I am not good with technology, so I love that everything is simple and organized in a way that you don’t need to know how to read code to understand.”
How long have you been using Fomo?
“2 months now.”
What has happened in the time since you signed up for Fomo?
“Our sales went from $4,600 before using Fomo to $18,000 the month we implemented it. I can’t say 100% of that was due to Fomo, but its definitely a solid contributor.”
What recommendations do you have for the Fomo team?
“I can’t think of much, I honestly love the App!”
What advice do you have for other Fomo users?
“My advice for Fomo users would be to install it as soon as you open your store! This is the most critical time to do it before your word-of-mouth has started to take off. This is the social proof your customers are looking for.”
Do you have anything else you’d like to share?
“I had a really cool situation happen last week. I was on the phone with an international distributor, and he jumped on my site and said, ‘I really like everything about your brand, but I am so impressed with the user activity. I can see customers purchasing it live.’”
What do you want customers to take away from your store? What are you truly selling?
“I want customers to know we aren’t just selling a wearable weighted blanket, we are giving families the gift of sleep which for most, is priceless.”
“We want parents to realize it is so much more than your baby getting a good night’s rest and thriving. When my son wasn’t sleeping, I was exhausted and had nothing left for my other three children or my husband. I felt like a bad mom and wife. Now that I’m well-rested, I can be myself again. Being able to sleep again was a game-changer for our entire family.”
