Kristin Pruis helps women take their service-based business to the next level through thoughtful branding and website creation with her company K Design Co.
An online presence is more important than ever, and whether you want a totally custom website that's created for you, or a template that you can add your own personal touches to, Kristin offers something for women at all stages of their business.
And of course, the brand and design of K Design Co. is fantastic. Now Kristin wants to help more women feel less embarrassed about their websites (or the lack thereof).
K Design Co. installed Fomo in July of 2020.
Tell us more about your brand! When did you launch, where are you headquartered, what moved you to start your business?
“I started my business in 2014 after getting my BFA and learning the ropes at a marketing agency for three years. I am based in Indianapolis but serve clients all over the US. Since opening my website template shop, I now have customers all around the globe. I initially started my business wanting to serve a variety of small business owners, but have since niched down to working with women-owned, service-based businesses.”
What are some of your other favorite tools for increasing conversions?
“I LOVE my Google Analytics. I look at my stats every day, like religiously. I use it to see where my conversions are coming from so I can repeat what’s working and focus only on what counts. Pinterest has been my secret weapon for driving site traffic, and I’ve found those are also my most-likely-to-convert visitors. I also use Hotjar on my site to see how visitors are interacting with my landing pages and where I can improve the design.”
“I use Showit for designing my website and landing pages, which makes it super easy for me to make tweaks and changes as needed based on the data I’m seeing from the other apps I’m using. As a designer, I’m very picky about how my site looks, so being able to control the design down to the pixel makes my perfectionist heart so happy.”
“I use Thrivecart for my payment gateway and to help me capture abandoned cart visitors. Their simple and robust interface saves me from the headaches I’ve experienced from many other commerce platforms I’ve tried or used in the past.”
Third-party apps can help to expand the functionality of e-commerce websites, and the options for expansion are endless.
What are a couple of specific conversion-related problems you’re experiencing?
“In terms of e-commerce, my products have a higher price point than what is considered the average transaction value for most e-commerce businesses (~$75-85). I think the price point makes it a lower-converting offer than what you might typically see. My templates are also created for specific types of business owners and on a specialized platform so it limits the number of users interested in purchasing.”
What other strategies did you try to address those issues before using Fomo?
“I’ve run a few ad campaigns to retarget past site visitors, but the return on investment in ad spend was definitely not worth it, so I wanted to find other methods of increasing conversions that would make more of an impact on my bottom line. Of course, I’ve also tweaked my landing pages several times, including adding video to ensure my pages are optimized for visitors and that they have all the information they need to make an informed choice to purchase.”
Fomo displays customer data in real-time to other visitors, prompting them to check out what others are up to and lets them see what's popular on the site.
What prompted you to move forward with Fomo?
“As a designer, I am drawn to brands that are sophisticated, in-tune with their market and their messaging. After visiting the Fomo site, I felt you checked all those boxes and more. Your brand was so honest and real and I instantly connected with it. I checked out a few of your blog posts and was literally laughing out loud while I was reading them from all the realness. Choosing Fomo was an easy decision.”
How are you tracking Fomo conversions?
“I just recently set up Scorecard goals through my Dashboard in November so I can see how my Fomo notifications on my site ultimately contribute to customer conversions. I regret I didn’t set this up sooner, but now I have set up a notification for all the products in my website template shop so that when someone lands on a thank you page that’s also hovered or clicked on a Fomo notification, it gets recorded as an assisted conversion.”
Care to share some of the results Fomo has had on your business?
“Since setting up the Fomo goals scorecard in the past month, I’ve had an increase of 78.82% increase in sales from my site even though I had heavily discounted prices the entire week of Thanksgiving. $558 of my sales were recorded as assisted conversions directly from Fomo. I’m super impressed and hope to continue to see growth like this.”
Do you have any changes you’d like to see made with Fomo? Any ideas for the team?
“Keep being awesome. I feel like when I signed up I didn’t even realize everything Fomo could do, so maybe send out inspirational ideas or use cases about how you can leverage the platform the most?”
What is one thing you want customers to take away from your business? What are you truly selling?
“I offer women at all stages of their business a way to showcase their services online through a beautiful website. My website templates are perfect for newer business owners like VAs, coaches, or Social Media Marketers wanting to DIY their site but still have a professional-looking design. My 1-1 done for you website design services are for women with successful, established businesses looking for a custom design to give them a totally personalized, unique edge.”
Any other stats you’re proud to share?
“My average transaction value increased 114.58% from October to November 2020.”
Do you have any advice for other Fomo users?
“I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how robust Fomo really is. I suggest experimenting with different notification types and settings to see how you can leverage it the most for your business.”
